Pioneer Q & A
How did you start working remotely? Was it something you sought out or stumbled into?
At What Cheer we sort of stumbled into remote work when flooding downtown made our Omaha studio inaccessible for a while. Once I joined Pack, which is a startup based out of California, it became an intentional thing, because we were distributed across Omaha, Berkeley and San Jose.
Do you still work remotely?
I do!
How did you find places to work from before Workfrom?
I’ve really only worked from coffee shops, so I would Google that and give a place a try. I ended up at chains like Starbucks a lot, which isn’t always a great working atmosphere.
How did you find out about Workfrom and what do you like most about Workfrom?
I believe I first saw Workfrom on Hacker News. I like that you like Omaha.
Really though, I like how organized the places are. So, if I want to pick a spot for a group to meet I can, versus a spot where I can work quietly by myself.
What would you like to see above all else come from us in the next year?
I’m not sure. I think it would be great to feature more non-coffee places. I hear that some pizza shops can be great places to work.
Any tips you’d like to share for others wanting to or already working remotely?
Work hard and be kind. Don’t hog the table or the outlet. Be nice to the baristas. Make friends.
