Pioneer Q & A
How did you start working remotely? Was it something you sought out or stumbled into?
I spent long time in academia, which was like being sentenced to solitary confinement in run-down apartments. When I left academia I had a client base for some of the work that I do, and it never made sense to start working not-remotely.
Do you still work remotely?
Yes.
What do you do for work and for fun?
What is fun? I just work. Work is fun. Also I love Big Brother! JUST KIDDING. I’m a writer. I read and write for fun. Wait, I just answered the question twice. Um, I go to the gym a lot and dominate at trivia and board games. I like cooking.
What cities do you call “home” and why do you want to be a Workfrom ambassador?
Portland OR, but I travel a lot, mostly to Europe (UK / Italy / ?)
How did you find out about Workfrom and why do you want to bring it to your area?
I don’t even remember how I found out about it, but I love it and I tell all my freelancing friends about it!
Any tips you’d like to share for others wanting to or already working remotely?
Other than using WorkFrom.co and joining Freelancers Union if you are a freelancer, these are my best tips!
Any tips for those wanting to visit and work from your area?
Other than the fact that the life of Portland is to the east of the Willamette, not really.
What do you like most about Workfrom, and what would you like to see above all else come from us in the next year?
I like the perks but it’s also great to scope out a new potential place to work without risking lost productivity due to crappy wifi or a screaming toddler group. I’d like to see more IRL meet-up options and more partnerships with businesses, but otherwise it’s great as it is!
