How did you start working remotely? Was it something you sought out or stumbled into?
I’ve been a freelance writer for about fifteen years. My practice grew slowly, and took years to become my primary source of income. So, it’s something I sought out, but that took time and attention to realize.
Do you still work remotely?
Yes. I work at home, remotely, and in traditional offices.
What do you do for work and for fun?
I put words in other people’s mouths for a living. Live entertainment scripts, TV specials, commercials, award shows, as well as work for the theatre.
What cities do you call “home” and why do you want to be a Workfrom ambassador?
Jersey City
How did you find out about Workfrom and why do you want to bring it to your area?
I stumbled upon it, and can’t remember where. (I rove the internet a lot and wind up far from where I started)
Any tips you’d like to share for others wanting to or already working remotely?
Not that I always follow my own advice, but:
Turn off your wireless signal.
Use a countdown watch to enforce/keep track of time spent.
Take short breaks, walks, get fresh air
Keep a notepad near your laptop.
Use the notepad for a change
Set goals w/ small rewards for accomplishing goals
Carry index cards and a pen everywhere
Always have a well (but not over) stocked bag or backpack
Avoid phones w/o keypads
Any tips for those wanting to visit and work from your area?
Newport is a great place to visit and work. When the weather’s nice, you can grab a bench. There’s also several hotels with great places to have a meeting or get things done.
What do you like most about Workfrom, and what would you like to see above all else come from us in the next year?
Honestly, I’m still discovering the site. Jersey City seemed underserved the last time I checked it out, but thought it would be useful down the road.
