Pioneer Q & A
How did you start working remotely? Was it something you sought out or stumbled into?
I’ve been freelancing for years (writing, video editing, etc), so partly those opportunities came along, and partly I sought out work that allowed me to travel.
Do you still work remotely?
Yes — on personal projects and as a news curator for Inside.com
What do you do for work and for fun?
I work in writing, with side projects in music and video. I also like road-tripping, camping, biking cooking. I live in an intentional community in SE Portland with a small garden and shared meal plan.
What cities do you call “home” and why do you want to be a Workfrom ambassador?
Portland, OR — I’ve been here for a year and love all the great places to work and collaborate. I previously lived in LA, so am pretty knowledgeable about that area too.
How did you find out about Workfrom and why do you want to bring it to your area?
I keep tabs on a lot of sites for co-working and location independence — this one seemed like the most useful for providing info (like wifi speeds) that you can’t get on Yelp. I think it’s a great platform!
Any tips you’d like to share for others wanting to or already working remotely?
Get a portable wi-fi device for backup and use a pay-as-you-go cell plan to keep expenses low.
Any tips for those wanting to visit and work from your area?
Portland is an ideal place to work from! Lots of collaborate workspaces and late-night coffeeshops and bars with wifi.
What do you like most about Workfrom, and what would you like to see above all else come from us in the next year?
More tools for finding co-working spaces on the go, maybe even ways to search or book a desk. More reviews of bars with wi-fi in addition to coffeeshops.
