Kampong Kami

Workability Rating

"Kampong Kami’s 3 independent bungalows with shared kitchen and chill out area /working space are located 4km south of Kampot in the small fishing village, Doun Taok. If you are looking for a true Cambodian experience and to be immersed in the local culture while being able to work online, read a book or simply binge watch a Netflix series, Kampong Kami is the place for you.Located on the riverside with a jetty and small beach this lovely spot is perfect for relaxing, observing the fishermen and boats or viewing the beautiful sunsets over Bokor Mountain. A great bonus at Kampong Kami is the access to super fresh fish, crabs, prawns and shellfish before they hit the market. You can wander over to the fishing jetties in the morning and choose from the boats the fish you want to cook in our shared kitchen or on the BBQ.We’re a short walk to the heart of the fishing village, where you can say hello, eat and drink with the locals and learn their way of life. The village invites you to experience a different way of life and is fascinating to participate in or just to observe. The fishing boats leave daily around five in the evening to start their voyage to the sea. Every day you will hear the rumble of their engines and see the colourful parade of these one of a kind boats. They return daily around 5.30 in the morning, at which time the whole village wakes up. The children and wives wait at the jetties for their arrival home after 14 hours spent at sea. It's a very busy time of the morning but, beautiful. Forget your western habits that tell you 5am is too early to wake up. Take a shower, drink your morning coffee with the sunrise and enjoy the coolest time of the day. You’ll have time to rest in the hottest hours of the day (11am to 3pm) when the village gets incredibly quiet. Everybody stays indoors or under the shelter of their homes with the fishermen asleep before going back to the sea again and the women busy fixing the nets for the next evening.Days have a different pace here, so... are you ready to have a whole different experience from what you would get just a few kilometres away?Guest accessYou’ll be staying in one of our simple, partially open-air bungalows.
