Oh, VPN’s work fine once you’re connected to the wifi.
Oh, after about 10AM they start accepting deliveries. I had a call interrupted by a delivery guy who asked me to sign for a few cases of beer.
— high-top tables, chairs, stools only.
— good power strips at most locations
— a row of banquette high-tops at the back of the restaurant are good for spreading out
— bathrooms downstairs through the dimly-lit nightclub. Turn left, go thru the nightclub, they’re down the hallway. Check for adequate supplies when you go in.
— wifi through KettleSpace.com, which leases the space for coworking during off-hours. They have a good weeklong free evaluation program.
I traveled to NYC for AI East at the NY Hilton and staying near Port Authority, and the Ribbon is perfectly situated between the two locations. It’s a restaurant which is leased by Kettlespace, a startup which allows restaurants and other venues to monetized their spaces during off-hours by using them for coworkers.
The tables and chairs are all high-tops, so if you are disabled or have issues using a stool-height chair or table, this is not the spot for you. It opens at 8AM, and during this week, I was the only one here for the first few hours. It is quiet enough during those hours to use for calls, but once the kitchen staff comes in they start cranking up the music. Adult-oriented pop from the 90’s and 2000’s mostly, about 10dB louder than ambient.
The wifi is through Kettlespace. They have a one-week free evaluation period, and that worked great for my one-week business trip to NYC.
